I grew up watching The Lizzie McGuire Movie. I always begged my mom to take me on a trip to Rome so that I could experience what she experienced. Here are some of the amazing places in Rome that are featured in the movie!

The Trevi Fountain

This is definitely the most beautiful fountain in the world. This is also where Lizzie McGuire first saw Paolo and where her journey began. However, this fountain was around a long time before the movie was made. It was finished May 22, 1762! This is a huge tourist spot, but it is definitely worth seeing! Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain, then you are guaranteed to return to Rome. If it’s true, you’ll find me throwing my entire life savings into it!

The Spanish Steps

These are Europe’s widest staircase, but definitely the most beautiful! They were originally built to link two places: the Spanish embassy to the Holy See at the base, to the church of Trinità dei Monti all the way at the top. They consist of 138 steps, and are only a short distance away from the Trevi Fountain! You can visit these steps at any hour of the day. They are a perfect place to relax and unwind, but they also are the place where many events are held. This includes the beginning of spring, where they cover the steps in pots of bright pink azaleas. They are definitely a sight to see!

The Tivoli Gardens

These gardens are not like any ordinary garden. First of all, it is huge! They have many different fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and different kinds of music playing. The gardens are based off of the context of Tivoli, which include the ruins of villas like Villa Adriana. They also include a zone with caves and waterfalls, which shows the never-ending battle between stone and water. There are also terraces and even an aqueduct that tunnels beneath the city. These gardens are definitely a sight to see!

The Colosseum

You can’t forget where the infamous concert scene in the movie took place! Yes, it took place in the Colosseum! It was originally the largest amphitheater in the Roman world. It was freestanding, which was rare in those days. Inside held seating for more than 50,000 people. However, over the years, the Colosseum was destroyed from weather, natural disaster, neglect, and many other reasons. All of these elements took down nearly two-thirds of the original amphitheater. There have been many efforts over the years to restore it to its original state. Although progress has been made, it has not reopened as an amphitheater. It is, however, a major tourist attraction.

If you’ve ever wanted to travel like Lizzie McGuire, now’s your chance! Make sure you visit these places so it feels like you’re a star in the movie.

XOXO,

Have Some Wanderlust
